1957. A significant year that few people would particularly remember. Nevertheless, it announced the start of a story that, 50 years later, is still being written. 1957 is the birthdate of the helicopter unit of the emergency services, with its pilots, mechanics and ground technicians… But above all, women and men who put themselves daily at the service of a unit of which the objective is to save lives.

For 50 years, helicopter rescues have not ceased to evolve and develop. The number of bases has grown, the helicopters have become more and more efficient, the rescues have become more and more precise. And still today, with 500,000 flight hours and more then 230,000 people saved since its creation, the helicopter unit continues its race forward : night flights, winching up at great heights, medical intervention ... At ease at sea as much as in the mountains, the mechanical bird has become an indispensable link in the rescue chain.
