This is the day his disciples are urged to commemorate.

This festival constitutes a pilgrimage, an event registered in time to express the eternal recognition of Sheik Ahmadou Bamba with respect to his Lord and of his guide, the Mohamed Prophet to have approved his mission which was to revivify Islam and to save humanity. One day of high historical range, full with significance and religious symbol is profiled at the horizon ... the pilgrimage in Islam Negro, on February.
Magal, wolof term, which means to pay homage, to celebrate, magnifier.
Celebrated 18th of the month of Lunar of SAFAR of each year Large Magal de Touba is an event which commemorates the departure in exile of Sheik Ahmadou Bamba.

This departure took place on August 10, 1895, afterwards of multiple adventures in confrontation with the colonial authorities. Large Magal de Touba is thus this major event which constitutes one of the most significant reference marks, i.e. most important of the Mouride calendar.

It acts of a commemoration whose celebration was expressly required by the Sheik himself.

The importance of Magal checks by the significant number individuals who move towards the Holy City of Touba as well inside the country as abroad. One can also see impressive dimensions of the average hardware, financial and human which is mobilized for the occasion.
Sheik Ahmadou Bamba Mbacké, from his true name Muhammad Ibn Muhammad
Ibn Habiballah, was born in 1855 (1272 of Hégire) in Mbacké, in Baol.

Fine well-read man, Sheik Ahmadou Bamba composed of very many works in the fields of jurisprudence, theology, the Sufism, the good education ... Martyrisé for its religious convictions by the French and private colonists of freedom during a major part of its existence (32 years of exile in Gabon then in Mauritania, of setting under house
arrest and persecutions), it founded the "Mouridiya" (Mouridisme) which can be defined as an aspiration in Allah (Mouridoullahi) in a way in conformity with the spirit and the prophetic message and as a philosophy of work and effort. Today, Sheik Ahmadou Bamba rests in Touba inside an immense mosque.

At the beginning, the community mouride did not meet to celebrate Magal, but each one did it at his place by immolant a sheep for some, by preparing special meals, etc.

It is a Sheik Mouhamadou Fadilou Mbacké which initiated the celebration of Large Magal de Touba such as we know it today, while requiring of talibés which, in the etymological sense of the term, means disciple or raises learning how the coran to go to Touba the all together day of the 18 Safar. Thus, Touba shows all the characteristics of a Moslem city. The mosque and its place constitute the center and the city of it. In the East, the library and cemeteries. The city includes also the houses of wire of Sheik Ahmadou Bamba and the principal religious chiefs.

One is in 2009, it is the 114th edition of Magal de Touba which has the characteristic to be marked by the disappearance of Serigne Saliou, the last wire of Sheik Ahmadou Bamba (Serigne Touba) on December 28, 2007. EC fact it is an occasion for many pilgrims to present their condolences. According to the majority of Mourides, Serigne Saliou was the alive reality of Serigne Touba. The concept of Khelcom in is a perfect illustration.

But one can also notice that this year, Magal is held under magistère of the first grandson of Serigne Touba, Serigne Bara Falilou, which is the successor of Serigne Saliou Mbacké, which thus marks the era of small wire. Friday December 28, 2007 will remain forever engraved in the memory of the Senegaleses because marking the recall with God of fifth Khalife, Serigne Saliou Mbacké and the setting on orbit of El Hadji Mouhamadou Lamine Bara Mbacké.
